Can you delete Google reviews from your business profile?

Short answer

No. Business owners cannot delete customer reviews from their Google Business Profile. Only the person who wrote a review can edit or delete it. Google removes reviews that break its prohibited and restricted content policies, such as spam, fake engagement, conflicts of interest, off-topic or offensive content, so your options are to report those reviews and reply publicly to the rest.

A review disappears in only three ways: the author deletes it, Google's automated systems filter it, or Google removes it after a report because it breaks policy. A review being negative, unfair in your opinion or bad for your rating is not a reason for removal. Google treats honest criticism of a real experience as legitimate content, even when it is harsh or you disagree with it.

Reviews Google may remove

  • Spam and fake engagement, such as reviews from people who were never customers or bulk reviews from the same source.
  • Conflicts of interest, for example reviews posted by competitors, by current or former employees, or by the owner about their own business.
  • Off-topic content that does not describe a real experience with the business.
  • Offensive, harassing, hateful or sexually explicit content.
  • Personal information, threats, illegal content or impersonation.

What to do with a review you cannot remove

Reply. A calm, specific public response is the most effective way to limit the damage of a negative review, because future customers read your answer next to the complaint. Acknowledge the experience, explain what you have changed, and offer a private channel to resolve it. If the issue is solved, you can politely mention that the customer is welcome to update their review, but never pressure them or offer anything in return.

Be wary of services that promise removals

Agencies that guarantee they can delete Google reviews cannot do anything you cannot do yourself: report a review through Google's official tools. Paying for mass false reports, or for fake positive reviews to bury bad ones, breaks Google's policies. Google can remove those reviews, limit new reviews on the profile and even show customers a warning about suspicious activity.
